The Queen of Beef Committee
Where has Summer Gone?
As the leaves have changed to vibrant colors of
orange, red and brown, county fair season comes to a
close, and farmers take to the fields it is quite
apparent that fall is upon us. This time of year is also
the much anticipated ‘back to school’ and football
season. We would like to remind all of your county
fair queens about the wonderful opportunities this can
provide for you… especially for your beef
promotions book. Some ideas would be to help serve
beef at the high school concession stand or to your
high schools sports teams, read a book about farm
animals to a local elementary school and maybe even
treat them with candy made with beef by-products.
Just because fair season is over doesn’t mean your
opportunities to represent the beef industry are over.
Remember the more effort and creative thought you
put into your county beef queen reign is more
experience you will have in preparation for the
upcoming Ohio Queen of Beef contest. Mark your
calendar now, this event is January 28, 2012 at the
Marriot in Dublin, Ohio.
We would like to thank all the county beef queens,
princesses and their families for their hard work over
the summer. Balancing farm work, sports, social
events and still representing your county and Ohio’s
beef industry is no small task, but our county queens
have done an excellent job this year. Many of the
county queens were at the Ohio State Fair helping
Kaitlyn Hinds, 2011 Ohio Queen of Beef, assist at the
beef shows. This was a tremendous help to her but
also don’t forget about the upcoming BEST show
season.
Lastly, we are currently in the planning stages for the
2011 Fall Queen Training Seminar. Currently the
pending date is early November, please be watching
your email, Ohio’s County Beef Queen’s Facebook,
Kaitlyn Hinds’ blog and the OCW website,
www.ohiocattlewomen.com for details. Please keep
in mind the new rule change for 2012. All contestants
must attend the spring and/or fall queen training
seminars. If a contestant is unable to attend both
seminars their application for the Ohio Beef Queen
contest must be accompanied by a letter explaining
why she was unable to attend the seminar and that
she has reviewed the materials missed. For an in
depth description please see part four of eligibility in
the 2012 contest rules. This rule is new for the 2012
contest, if there are any questions or concerns please
contact either Ohio Queen of Beef contest
coordinator.
We hope to see all of you at the Fall Training
Seminar!
